Systems Engineering

As of April 2022, according to various studies transportation accounts for 19% - 24% of all greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions worldwide! Therefore, changing current means and forms of mobility is one of the most important tasks for our generation. Luckily, there is great potential to improve. Electric and shared mobility are not only more eco-friendly but also more cost-effective than combustion-driven and individual transportation. This means by using better forms of mobility we reduce our ecological footprint and save money while contributing to saving the planet. So let's do it!

To support your sustainable mobility project, my services include but are not limited to

  • systems engineering, E/E architecture and wiring harness design
  • customer relations, requirements engineering
  • supplier relations, component selection and sourcing
  • build-up process support, commissioning, testing
  • trouble shooting
  • technical project management for teams performing all the above
  • general mobility consulting

Portfolio of e-Mobility Projects

Special Vehicle Development

A specialized test rig vehicle was designed to revolutionize tire testing and development in one of the largest automotive suppliers' test bench facilities.

Leading systems engineering for this high voltage driven three-axle prototype vehicle with two separate powertrains and boardnets, my responsibilities included:

  • Definition of requirements and interfaces for the involved project partners and customers.
  • Selection of components.
  • Leading technical discussions and problem solving with all stakeholders.
  • Design of wiring harness schematics.
  • Electrical integration in the workshop (hands-on).
  • First commissioning of the vehicle.
  • Coordination and implementation of tests, incl. planning of test equipment, test facilities and headcount.

Electric Vehicle Series Development

The scope of this project was to develop an electric powertrain for a low-cost passenger car to be produced in series by an Asian OEM.

One of my roles was being the function owner for the HV charging system of the vehicle. Tasks included:

  • Coordination of various disciplines e.g., requirements, system architecture, software, hardware, mechanical design, and test across several countries to push development foward.
  • Close cooperation with disciplines Functional Safety, Cyber Security, production, and with some senior technical experts.
  • Direction of technical discussions, workshops, review meetings and reporting to overall project management.
  • Communication interface for colleagues, customers, partners, and suppliers from different cultures and continents.

Electric CargoBike Development

My client's goal is to downsize cars into high-tech, lightweighed and 48V-driven ebikes.
To use less resources and energy.
To reduce traffic congestions and emissions. To reinvent cycling for better urban mobility.

Driving the development as a freelancer for systems engineering, my assignments include:

  • Development of the E/E architecture and wiring schematics for powertrain and auxiliary electronics realizing requested functionalities and requirements.
  • Selection and sourcing of components. Supplier management.
  • Coordination of interfaces and leading technical discussions with my client, partners and suppliers all over the world.
